Greetings.

I am attempting to use the info located at
http://brendan.sdf-eu.org/articles/install_winprinter.php

to install a 820Cse Printer (Parallel)  (which does work with cups under ubuntu - local (and remote on an XP box))

I wish to install this on an older pc (200 mhz, 160MB) - so I'm using DSL.

A few questions.

Can I expect (if I use ''standard' fonts" (arial/times new roman)) that the output will be 'as seen on screen (from various Linux's, OS X, and win xp).  Images will print ok?  (side note - OS X won't print to the printer on XP - driver issue I suspect)

I added cups from dsl extensions - no problem

I ran into a problem with installing pnm2ppa - untarred it fine - but there is no 'make' command....

(I would guess I could add 'make' with apt-get - but I'm not finding that either)

---
Or is it such that running a print server - is beyond DSL (that is my main focus - to allow the multiple computers to access the shared printer.)

I do have a local printer (another 820Cse) on my XP box and can print to it from Ubuntu.
-

Also, if there is a section I should read up in the DSL book, pls let me know.

Input appreciated.

Thanks
TM

<side note - used DSL this week to recover data from another dead XP box...again>

You'll probably want a full compiler package: see the gcc* packages in mydsl, or compile*.uci.

fyi: you probably did not find 'make' in the apt repository because you probably forgot to 'update' first.

dsl will work fine as a printer server for linux and windows machines, you can use the cups and the samba mydsl extensions for this.
