I was able to configure the HP PSC 1315 printer (USB based) on several Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Gentoo, Slackware) using CUPS, but no luck with the printer on DSL at all. I did the whole configuration in the same way on each distribution and somehow I can print using these other distributions, but cannot print using DSL.
And I tried it on three different computers - no luck at all. I used HP-PSC_1310-hpijs.ppd each time - I put it in the folder with the other ppd files and included it as the driver. Everything works fine until printing the test page - then nothing happens. When I check the completed job, I get either the message that printing is completed - although it is not - or that it is aborted.
E.G., this is what I got in /var/logs/cups/error_log when I tried to print the test page and (when I saw that it did not print anything) restarted printing the same page:
I [05/Nov/2005:22:50:50 -0500] Job 1 queued on 'hppsc' by 'root'. I [05/Nov/2005:22:50:50 -0500] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstops (PID 1157) for job 1. E [05/Nov/2005:22:50:50 -0500] PID 1158 stopped with status 22! I [05/Nov/2005:22:50:50 -0500] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip (PID 1158) for job 1. I [05/Nov/2005:22:50:57 -0500] Started "/usr/lib/cups/cgi-bin/printers.cgi" (pid=1160) I [05/Nov/2005:22:51:02 -0500] Started "/usr/lib/cups/cgi-bin/printers.cgi" (pid=1161) I [05/Nov/2005:22:51:27 -0500] Started "/usr/lib/cups/cgi-bin/admin.cgi" (pid=1162) E [05/Nov/2005:22:51:27 -0500] restart_job: job #1 cannot be restarted - no files!
This is the description of the printer that CUPS gives:
HP PSC 1310 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended) Printer State: idle, accepting jobs. Device URI: usb:/dev/usb/lp0
-----------------------------------------------------
So, I would really appreciate if anyone can tell me how I could enable printing or generally if they had any luck using this printer (or 1310) on DSL?
