i use gaim with gtk2 and i have some troubles with encoding message in receipt ...i'm french and everyt time i receive a message with some letter like ( é, à, ç ...) gaim can't display the message and return me an error ...

those kind of troubles are with icq and aim protocol ( iso 8859-1 )apparently with msn and yahoo it works ...

Perhaps i have to change some parameter but i tried with no success ...

its why i tried also another instant messenger " Ayttm " which is very interesting also and for which i don't have the troubles related at the top of my message but for which i can't connect to msn protocol ...returning me an error ( bad cookies ) ...
So i 'm a little desapointed cause i can't use only one instant messenger cause of my different troubles ...

i 'm waiting for you help perhaps another universal instant messenger works fine ...in mydsl repository i did't see other kinf of soft ...

if you want a replacement that is compatible to msn messenger you might want to try AMSN which can be found under ICU in MYDSL. I don't know of anything for yahoo messenger other than gaim but i know this one works for me. I have only msn contacts so it works great.
