Each time I try to open the normal gmail.google.com (html version works fine) page, the browser loads most of the page and then immediately closes.

I tried uninstalling all the extensions and not running in toram mode in case it was a memory issue. I also tried creating a new firefox profile, but it did the same thing.

Any ideas? It had been working fine, and I'm not sure what changed to make it crash. Some other websites (typically javascript or ajax-heavy, but not always -- google spreadsheets and calender work fine!!!) also cause the crash.

The following error is shown when I run it from the command line:
Code Sample
/opt/firefox-1.5.0.6/run-mozilla.sh: line 424:  1431 Segmentation fault      "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

Thanks, Scott

Well, as in most things, the solution was easy and yet not very obvious!  I don't visit sites using Flash on a daily basis, so as I was browsing today, I noticted that any Flash site caused the browser to crash the same way.

Therefore, deleted and reinstalled flash and voila, problem solved for Gmail and all the other sites as well. I wasn't aware that Gmail used Flash for anything!!
