Does DSL include any utilities like expect for interacting with telnet, ftp, ssh, or other functions that require listen/respond type behavior?

I too am looking for functionality similar to expect. I have been searching far and wide for some way to kick off a login script in telnet and leave it interactive for my users.

I have already installed the apt package and tried to install expect but there seems to be some bug in libc6 having to do with the date localization that causes a catch-22 installation scenario with other dependencies. It also makes a giant mess and I have not figured out how to reverse it.

This "bug" seems to have been known in Debian circles since 1999 and is both "closed" and "outstanding" at the same time.

Anyway... I have been hammering away at finding an alternate way of doing this login script using varieties of i/o redirection to no avail. All roads lead to expect.

I had considered compiling expect on another debian system and then just copying the resulting binary over but I just haven't gotten that far.

...but there seems to be some bug in libc6...

Code Sample
sudo apt-get -f install

Try this and then try again.

I found that there was already a DSL package for libc6 and I have been fetching that on my continued quest. Now I am running into problems where dselect tries to mash my install by upgrading portions of the CD that have nothing to do with libc6
