though using different versions isn't recommended... here's something you could do without running mkwriteable or remastering

Code Sample
mkdir ~/bin ~/lib
ln -s /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 ~/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8
ln -s /path/to/my_binary ~/bin/my_binary
export PATH=$PATH:~/bin
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=~/lib
my_binary
