Just about a week ago I installed Opera 9.22 without problems.
Now I'm trying to install the update (9.23) and just can't remember how I did it the last time.
The download comes as a .tar.gz file.
So, I unzipped it (gunzip) and then untarred it( tar xvf) and CDed into the resulting directory.
Here I tried dsl-dpkg.dsl which gives a "command not found error" (although I had just downloaded this).
Then I tried "install.sh" and it started off fine but stopped after a few lines complaining that I didn't have write permssion for some directory or other.
So, then I tried "sudo install.sh" and this time I get a "no such file or directory error".
I know this has to be simple but the solution is eluding me.
Please help
Paul

Well, I finally got the update installed by using dpkg -i on the .deb file version of the download.
Strangely, I'm sure I used the .tar.gz the last time but I really cannot find how to install this.
Although I don't need this urgently, it would be good to know what I overlooked.
Thanks
Paul

You don't need to install it, just untar it whereever you need and launch opera with "opera" in the unpacked dir..

Ah, OK.
That might explain why the "dpkg -i" that I did on the .deb package seemed to finish in 1-2 seconds when in Ubuntu it might take 10-20 seconds.
Perhaps the untar that I had already done was the real reason that Opera 9.23 became available to me.
Thanks for the clarification
