I know it's a long shot, but does anyone know if it's possible to run Flash4 natively in Linux, without using WINE?  Or maybe with some specialised WINE-type setup?

Has anyone actually got WINE to work on DSL without needing to install different x-window servers?  Or can give a brief overview of what's needed to get WINE up and going (eg how to install and set up a new X server, settings, ...)

Basically, developing in Flash is the only reason I still have WinME on my laptop, I can do everything else I need my laptop to do using DSL (oh, except mp3s, still can't get generated sound to work - line-ins, CD read, and mic all work, but nothing working from the CPU...)

No, it's not possible to run any Macromedia products natively in Linux.  Complain loud and long to Macromedia and maybe they'll get the message.

In order to run wine you'll need to download and install XFree86 (apt-get install x-window-system).  Flash works great with Crossover Office, btw.

On the whole sound issue, have you checked the mixer and made sure the volume's turned up?  I know that sounds like a silly question, but it tends to stump a lot of people when their sound doesn't work.  It's worth trying anyway.
