Have you added any new *.lnk files to your .xtdesk directory?
The XTDesktop Icon manager will refuse to load if there is a bad *.lnk file sitting inside this directory.
Open up emelfm, press the "H" button in the top left corner. This will let you see the hidden files and directories (files/directories that begin with a period "." are normally hidden from view).
Then double click on the .xtdesk directory and the *.lnk and icon files will appear.
Scroll up and down and see if you can find a *.lnk file that does not have a matching icon file (usuallly ends in *.gig, *.jpg or *.png)
If so, delete or rename the *.lnk file. Maybe call it *.lnk.old or something like that.
Then try to start up the icons again.
Good Luck.
