Which is the best directory to install extra applications? I want to install Opera 6.12 in /usr/local/, is it I good choice? In case I wanted to uninstall it later, how should I proceed?

If you want to try out Opera 6.12 and be able to easily uninstall it, I recommend that you install it to your /home/username directory

This will allow you to easily uninstall it by deleting the new directories that are created inside your home directory.

If you do a /usr/xxxx install location, you will need to scan through all of your files and manually delete the Opera-related files one by one.

Try running my Opera 6.12 install script. Make sure that you DON'T run the script as user 'root' or it may attempt to do a /usr install instead of a /home/username install:

I am confused again.  I am trying to install Opera 6.12 using the last scripts posted by Cbagger01.  I am happily using DSL 0.60 but would like a browser with a search engine which is considerably faster than the Firebird I installed.  (This was, not surprisingly, very slow on my P133mmx, 40meg ram laptop.)
Having searched, it seems pre- DSL v0.60 worked using Cbaggers script and Rapidweather's own  version but there doubt on scripts working with v0.60.  Am I wasting my time?
Also, I actually can't get past the simple cutting and pasting of the scripts from Dillo into either nano and Scite. ie. having highlighted whole script, Cntrl+C copied the lot and then Contrl+V attempted to paste in the editors - nothing happens.
I tried line by line also and every other permutation of copying but no.  Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Just select some text and click the middle mouse button to paste it somewhere. :)
