Under which folder should I save my files?

Now there are under /usr/my files.

But as it is at the moment I am not allowed files when logged in as a normal user.

any folder under /home/dsl/ - like /home/dsl/my_files

/usr is owned by root, and is not writable by the normal user

I have used /usr for my install files. It s okay when they are writeable for root only.
I ll copy the other documents to /home/dsl/documents and delete the old files. thanks for help
