I know linux is different (basically virus proof if you don't abuse/ misuse root privledges),  but should it be updated?

I'm asking because I just read this:

DSL is a live-cd.

If you start having issues, you just reboot.

:P

You do not have to be afraid of a virus which could damage DSL when using it from CD (on CD (-->read only) DSL itself cannot be damaged of course). You also do not have to be afraid of a virus which could damage your HD-install or frugal install, or any other Linux distro, because currently there is no fatal, "deadly" virus for Linux, I think. And Linux is just one of the safest operating systems you can get!

But surfing on internet and downloading has different risks: password phishing, saying "Yes, please install" to the wrong E-Mail extensions, and things like that. But if you use your web browser normally and do not execute firefox as 'root', you really do not have to be afraid. Just have fun with Damn Small Linux :-)

Nonetheless I am hoping that the developers will update things like Firefox. It must make more work, I know.

As I understand it, the version of Firefox (0.9.1) included on the DSL CD was compiled to use GTK 1, among other changes.
This gives those who want the 'latest and greatest' two options:
1. Add a new version of Firefox and the GTK 2 mydsl extension to their HD or CD.
2. Use Mozilla Navigator (part of the Mozilla Suite)... the download you can get from Mozilla's website is for GTK 1.  I downloaded it, remastered the CD, and use that whenever I'm running DSL.

I hope I'm not asking the wrong person (i.e., the main person who spent all the time and effort to scrunch down Firefox to fit on DSL; don't get me wrong, it's a great accomplishment), but what if one who is making a custom, remaster CD was interested in removing the version of Firefox included in DSL?  I've already identified a few Firefox directories where the actual program is contained, would there be any other unused files/whatever?  Additionally, would one be better off analyzing the differences between pre-Firefox DSL (0.8.4) and either a current version or 0.9.0.1/0.9.1 (since 0.9.0.1 brought a whole host of changes such as removing xmms)?
