I think that a resistor was added in series with the field coil so not to add too much of a load to the power supply.

I have not powered up this radio in quite a while but may give it a try soon.I did use it frequently at one time and the AM/FM/SW worked well.

There is a compartment that opens on the top/left where a phonograph was/could of been installed.

The cabinet design resembles yours also,when I first saw it I thought it was mine  :O
