I have noticed when looking at some of the files that the current browsers are not included in the mix for the releases. Opera is at some version 6.2 whatever and firefox is at 0.9.3. Why the older versions? Is there incopatibilities in the libraries or am i missing something here?

People laugh because I have linux on a cd with me.

I laugh as the pay me for using that disk to recover their precious windows.

Firefox 0.9.3 requires gtk2. It will be availabe as a dsl extension. Work is currently in process to get it ready for the repository.
However, it, firefox 0.9.3 will not run on the older computers, ie. there is no 586 version.  The download script and the uci file is firefox 0.8 586 version. This version has the widest base of systems that it will run on.

Opera and Firefox are both extensions created by the DSL users, not part of the DSL release.  It's basically up to the packager who builds the extension to choose what version is used.  Many extensions are built from debian packages, which aren't always current.
If you feel the need to use the most current, you could apt-get unstable, or create your own extension.  DamnSmall itself has a pretty good selection of recent packages, as long as they are small and fast.

Firefox-0.9.3 is posted in the testing area of the repository..
It DOES work with the "get flash" script in 0.8
It IS ONLY for 686 computers or better...

Opera 6.12 was the last version that worked well on older computers.

There is no reason why an Opera 7.5.x package cannot be created.  It just won't run as well on older computers.
