I wanted to try the windowmaker .dsl (which is a 404 at this moment in mydsl)

I loaded it with mydsl-load, exited x and then typed wmaker

Problem: I get a message could not open display ""

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Extra info:
running remaster of 0.8.3 with GTK2, firefox and Abiword

p.s. edit: I see I should have placed this in a different category (X and fluxbox), sorry about that :(

No problem, this place is fine..

I moved the wmaker.dsl app back to the testing area .. ( your 404 )
My apologies for not updating the mydsl wm_apps page after my change.
Several users have reported issues with that extension.
Until they are resolved, in testing it will remain.
Feel free to download it and work to improve it.
Submissions are always welcomed.

For your error message, here's my guess:
Using the command "wmaker" from console isn't going to start your X session.  First X needs to be started, and then the window manager can load.

Try editing ~/.xinitrc.  Change "fluxbox" to "wmaker" and then run startx.
You might need to also remove/edit the enhance thingy as well, if you have problems with the pager or xtdesktop.

Thanks Milshaw, i'm typing from wmaker at this moment :)

Some error still, but it seems to work

ke4nt1, the DSL worked nicely after I edited the .xinitrc, commented out everything, and added the line wmaker.

Issue that now remains is that it had some problems loading the menu. But I think that, after reconfiguring this with wprefs that problem is gone.

I use remasters of DSL so for me this is ok.

I'm tesing wmaker.dsl also.
---
Wonder how to get a menu for Window Maker other than the default one
that has:
Xterm
rxvt
Restart
Exit...
---
Right off the bat, I think wmaker takes more resources than fluxbox, so this is just
for testing, only.
I have a Debian 2.2 book around here somewhere, and it probably tells how to fix up a menu.
Some of the FVWM setups, in Mandrake 8 will generate one for you, but I doubt we have that here.
Speaking of FVWM, I would like to see a .dsl of that.
I did learn how to fix up FVWM's menu for a particular box, and like it a lot.
Neat thing was the Pager, where little minature copies of open applications
would appear, if your pager was large enough.
I autohide the pager in FVWM,
so the thing would not be in the way.
