Would anyone out there be willing to try their hand at making a CAPTIVE NTFS .dsl.  They seem to have it working in KNOPPIX distro.  I didn't see any kind of deb already packaged though.

I've created some simple .dsl's direct from debs, but this one looks WAY over this newbie's head.  Looks like you have to create a special user and group and also some directories, etc., etc...

But, it would be great to have a .dsl that you could easily load to be able to write NTFS.  Lots of application in the corporate world (the company I work for has 40,000 XP systems installed).  We can win them over 1 convert at a time.

Imagine booting from your DSL CD, loading Captive, and then actually repairing a crapped out Windows system (installing a missing or corrupt driver, editing the registry, etc...)   I'm sure that would get a few jaw drops from the IT support folks.  Their solution lately to almost any system error has been to "re-image" the machine.

The idea is to be able to access and write to an WinNT 2000 / XP / 2003 box when it won't boot or has some other problem.  In these cases you don't have any choice on what filesystem to pick.

Also, I usually use DSL on my corp notebook and boot off USB.  But in the middle of a DSL session, I commonly would like to save or update a file on my NTFS partition so I don't have to close DSL, boot XP, <do what I need>, close XP, reboot DSL.

Besides, if we are ever going to get any movement of Linux to the desktop in the Win community, you need to be able to access the native file system so the people have access to their "personal directories".  And don't keep one set of seperate document just for linux and another set for when they are in Windows.  This way you could try before you buy(in) with the directories and structures your used to.

There's the tar.gz package and the source. Personally I think that would be an excellent addition to ANY distro.
