Quote (mikshaw @ Jan. 12 2005,13:40) | The extension's extensions are different because of the way they are installed. The mydsl-install script checks the extension to decide whether or not to run mkwriteable first (opens up more of the system for writing). If the extension is *tar.gz, mkwritable is not run, and the package is limited to writing in /opt, /tmp, and /home. This saves precious memory usage and prevents overwriting of vital system files. |
Thanks mikshaw, I understand.
I also realised that Scribus has a LOT of dependencies. To make a scribus.dsl will be a lot of work. It is available in Knoppix.
I now understand that as far as the live CD is concerned, to preserve memory/resources the best/efficient is .uci tar.gz dsl
in that order.
Thanks everyone!
Now to make my own extensions - starting small of course. It will be nice if someone does a how to do this with a real application as an example. I will start searching first :-)
A real example is worth a thousand descriptions....
