I have made my dsl.
The .lnk files are in /home/dsl/.xtdesktop

However the 2 icons both appear at the top left of the desktop, regardless of X,Y in the .lnk file

From version 1.3, and surely version 1.4,
the icons are managed differently...

Starting with the CAPITAL letters, and working thru
the alphabet, the icons are now arranged by name,
in a grid..  which is why Beaver is now in the left corner.

There are a few options ..

1.
Rename them to something that makes them fall
where you want them to in the existing grid ..

2.
Turn off the grid, and place them where you want them..
Look in .xtdeskrc under table layout ..
Changing the grid cols to zero makes them go back to
using the old x-y coordinate system ..

name and case don't seem to have anything to do with it, the icons remain stubbornly on top of the Beaver icon

I notice that there is an error message during loading the dsl

mv: unable to rename '/var/tmp/mydsl.icons/I2cmon_icon.png'

Perhaps somethinng need to be in that directory?
Currently they are in /home/dsl/.xtdesktop
