I think it has something to do with the "Create new program window" alignment in MS Windows.
Normally, when you start up a program in MSWindows, the new window appears in the center of the user's workspace. But if there are multiple windows already open, MSwindows will then try to launch the new winddow slightly down and to the right of the last opened window.
If the QEMU window is too far down and to the right, it will crash when the graphical screen appears.
At least that's my guess.
If I make the QEMU window appear in the upper left corner, it doesn't crash, or at least it crashes much less often.
But then again, I could be completely wrong.
