Hello all. I am a complete begginer with linux and this is my first attempt at using it. I unzipped the required files to my usb flash drive wich is formated FAT I ran syslinux succsesfully. restarted my pc changed the bios settings to boot from usb hdd and then I see the first screen of dsl it says press enter or f2 if I rmeber correctly but here lies the problem I press enter and nothing happens, i try F2 and get no response ive tried my usb keyboard and my normal keyboard and neither seem to work. Any help on why this is would be greatly appricaited
thanks

edit: I have searched the forums a bit more and still found no anwsers. I also notice that the numlock key is on andI cnat turn it of. I wait a few minutes but DSL dosn't boot automatically
on further investagation the numkey is not related ive come to belive it has nothng do to with the keyboard but it may justb e that DSL is crashing upon boot.
any help with this

I have never tried to boot from usb, but i have read that there is option to install it to your usb once booted to dsl, so first boot to dsl from cd and then find the option to install to usb, after the install it should work.

This usually means that it has got stuck somewhere trying to autoconfigure all of your hardware.

The first thing to do, is to type failsafe and then press enter at the first screen. This will then show you what it is doing.

Then it will probably hang somewhere and give you a clue as to what might be wrong. If you post the last couple of lines when this happens maybe we can work out whats wrong.

Mine usually hangs on a problem with the PCI bus but can be fixed with typing DSL acpi=off at the first screen. so a similar thing might work for you too.

Hope this helps.
