Hello,

I am a new user to this program (DSL) and I am having a horrible time trying to install this software I am using. It is a software not the DSL itself. I am using the pendrive version of DSL.

DSL is GREAT, by the way! :)

The only reason I needed Linux was to run this program.

These are my problems with this:

-The first step in the installation of the software is this:
"Log in as root." I do not know how to do this.

-The next step is "Identify an install directory (e.g. /usr1) on a file system with 15GB+ of free disk space"
How do I identify an install directory?

-The next step is "Load and mount the install CD.
e.g. “mount /media/cdrecorder” if the CD doesn't automatically mount." I do not know how to do this either.

-The step after that is "Cd to your cdrom device (eg. “cd /media/cdrecorder”)." What does this mean?

-Run “(FILE NAME)<your_install_directory>”.
I took out the file name for privacy purposes. How do I run this?

Your help is GREATLY appreciated!!  :)

to be root just type> sudo su < in console. for mounting use the mount tool in the right corner. cd is short for change directory.

felix,

I am new to DSL so my advice might not be the best.  If you are running from a pen drive and install 15G of software it will run out of room.  It might work if you have room on your harddrive.  Open up emelfm and do some double clicking in the /mnt directory to see what harddrives to mount (should be like hda1 or something like that)  Click on it and do a right mouse button and select mount from the menu.  Now click on DF in the lower right corner to see if you have 15G.  To mount your cdrom you would go to /mnt/auto/cdrom and mount just like the harddrive.  To get to root I think you can do sudo su or better right click on emelfm and select open as superuser.  I don't know what your software does but DSL is trimmed down and might not run it.  Tell us if it works.

Where is console?

Ok.. My hard drive is ready. I have 25 GB available.

I found emelfm. Now, for the other... How do I specify a directory?
