Hey,

I'm having a problem booting DSL from a usb device. Let me explain the situation.

I've got a liveCD of the latest version of DSL. When I boot from this CD, DSL starts, and works correct. So my system is able to run DSL.

I've got two different kind of usb sticks. The're both supposed to be 256 MB usb 2.0 drives. I install DSL to both of them from the DSL liveCD, and try to boot them. When using the first stick, everything goes OK, and DSL works just like the liveCD. When booting from the second stick, the 'Autoconfiguring devices' takes about four times as long as on the cd or the working usb drive. Also, the 'Scanning for Harddisk partitions and creating /etc/fstab...' takes far longer.
After that, I get the following error:

Code Sample

Scanning for Harddisk partitiions and creating /etc/fstab... Done.
Network device eth0 detected, DHCP broadcasting for IP. (Backgrounding)
Network device eth1 detected, DHCP broadcasting for IP. (Backgrounding)

There is a slight difference in the usb drives:

Working drive:
 USB2.0 USB Flash Disk 0.00 (250MB)
Device that doesn't work:
 UT163 USB Flash Disk 0.00 (245MB)

The drives both get formatted with the HP USB Disk Formatting Tool, and installed properly.

It's not just one stick on wich it doesn't work. I've got three working sticks (250MB) and twenty non-working sticks(the 245MB ones).

Has anyone got a suggestion to fix the usb stick? I would really like to see DSL work on these drives.

Anyway, thanks for reading this, and hopefully you can help me.

- Tom
