Hi Guys,

is it possible for the mydsl extensions on the mydsl folder on a usb drive to be corrupted? the filesystem is fat32

i experienced something like this.

i have vnc.dsl , circuslinux.dsl and feh.unc in my mydsl folder on the usb drive.

earlier when i booted my pc the dsl extensions and feh loaded and i could use them as soon as i booted up.

after a few reboots of the system i get this message
on bootup

"circuslinux tar invalid tar magic"
likewise for vnc. for feh i get some other error message.
as a result i can neighther use circuslinux nor vnc or feh.

please advise.

Thank you.

It could be
1. out of space
2. the .dsl's are conflicting with unionfs layer (unc)

I would check the integrity of the partition table of the usb device as seen from DSL...

Open up a root shell and at the prompt enter
# fdisk -l

Note that is fdisk "minus el"

Is your partition table clean or are there many errors displayed?

Hi Roberts,

strangely after a couple of reboots the vnc and circuslinux.dsl and feh.unc are now loading again and working. but i want to know better as maybe this will recur.

anyway when i did a fdisk -l i got the following message for sda1 which is the usb drive

"partition 1 has different physical/ logical endings
phys(61,254,63)  logical(62,183,57)"

is this of any significance?

Thanks.

It might be, it usually means that the partition table is inconsistent, and may be inaccurate. Modifying a disk with an inaccurate partition table will likely increase the chance of data loss or inconsistent behavior.

That is why  the two pendrive installation scripts offered inside the base DSL, I start with a clean partiton table.
