I have a sony vaio PCG-C1XN with no hard disk.  I did a hard disk install to a 512MB USB stick on a different computer (as DSL can't read the PCMCIA CD drive) and now the files are on the usb drive as they should be.  Since the computer I want to use has no USB booting (other than booting from it's own USB floppy drive), I'm left with limited options:

I can boot off the PCMCIA CD drive, load up the kernel and usb (/dev/sda1) modules and then access the root partitions to continue the boot process

I can boot the bootloader on the usb floppy, boot the kernel with relevent modules and then access and continue booting from my USB stick (on /dev/sdb1 as sda is the usb floppy)

The USB stick has an ext2 (perhaps 3, I'm not sure on what the dsl-hdinstall script did) partition and there is no way this computer (266MHz Celeron) is going to boot off USB!

How can I do it?  I want to get the CD to boot as it's easier, but I want to remove the CD drive once the booting is finished so I can put in my ethernet card.
