Hi,

I tried looking through the damnsmalllinux site, Faq's, a search on the forums and all the usual to no avail. I'm sure this has te be resolvable.

I succesfully installed DSL on my "Medion" 256Mb USB 2.0 stick. It boots up fine from there!

The problem is I can't start it from inside Windows.

I installed Qemu but that seems to want some kind of disk image. Do I need to use the original DSL .ISO for this?
If so, that would double my flash ram usage!

Am I on the wrong track?
I hope someone can help out.

Thanks,
Dennis.

You need to do whats known as a 5-way install where it comes with Qemu and all.

search for 5-way install and your bound to have the installation method come up multiple times

Update: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/talk/node/186 says info is avaliable within the "5-way" tarball avaliable from the download section -i knew it was explained somewhere...

Thanks a million Chickenman,

I just installed the "embedded" version. It works fine, but it also takes up more than twice as much space... Still very cool though! Now maybe if I can find a way of losing that 60MB haddrive image...

Just delete the file and remove the reference to this file from your dsl-windows.bat file.

You will lose the ability to backup/restore and you will lose your sound while running from embedded mode.

For a better solution, you can create a smaller harddisk file, maybe 15MB instead of 60MB.  There are instructions in the forums and a new one in the documentation site.

Thanks, this sounds like an 'ideal compromise'.
I'll definitely give that a try.

Dennis.
