Following a successful installation to the USB stick with USB-ZIP method, in the root of the first partition (sda1) I have a file named ' which seems to be a copy of the default syslinux.cfg. Is it there for a reason, due to a bug in the installation script or my LiveCD was corrupt? Can I delete the file without causing any harm?

You can remove it, or keep it as a backup 'just in case'.
