Hi everyone,

I'm currently writing a paper on different boot procedures of Linux.  Unfortunately, I can't find much information on the boot procedure from a USB key.  Is it different from that of a Live CD?  If anyone has any information or any reference I would really appreciate it!  Thank you!

Cheers,
H.B  :D

The "current.iso" uses the isolinux for a bootloader..
We also have a syslinux version as well..

The pendrive installs use either syslinux, or extlinux.

Search the forums for those keywords,
and you should find a good bit of information about their usage.

Hi ke4nt,

Thank you for your reply!  I appreciate it.

It seems as though the only difference between the boot procedure of Live CD and Live USB (aside being boot from CD drive and USB port) is the different bootloader used.  Am I correct in that assumption?

I'll try to look through the forum for more details.  Thanks again   :)

There is one other difference.

The USB boot includes the bootcode "frugal", ie:

dsl frugal

This will allow you to write to your boot device (USB drive is writable, unlike a CD).

Also, "frugal" gets rid of the "Please remove the CD from the drive and press ENTER to continue" message upon shutdown.
