If you want to use DSL on a USB thumb drive with 5-way booting support, you will need to reboot your "real" computer and boot up natively using a DSL livecd.

You cannot do it from a virtual PC like VMWare or QEMU because you don't have direct access to your real PC's USB devices.

So...

After downloading the ISO file, open up Nero and choose:

File -> Burn Image (For Nero 5.x)

or

Recorder -> Burn Image (For Nero 6.x)

and create a livecd.

Then, reboot the computer and go into your BIOS.  Enable booting from CDROM at higher priority than your hard drive.

Then boot up the livecd with the USB drive already plugged in and Right-Click on the desktop somewhere.

Choose "Install to USB Pen Drive" from the menu and follow the instructions.

Finally, download the 5-way script and open a xterminal window and type "sudo su" and then ENTER key.

First you must untar (like UNZIP in Windows) the script file

tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz

Then cd into the newly created subdirectory and then type in the name of the script to run it.

yep did that last night, although not with this one...I forgot I didn't build this one lol so I ended up stuffing around with the one I did build...the guy in sydney who put this one together for my boss didn't quite do it the way I would have....anyway..

needed to know that

the rest still has me a little confused, so I enter the command tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz within the terminal window.

to cd means absolutely nothing to me, and I am guessing the subdirectory wont be immediately obvious to me either at that point, ahhhhhhhhh are you saying to copy the directing into the subdirectory then run one of the files within it?

well the install to pendrive installs the lot, then can'tmove the rest over as it says not enough space....

so far have figured out sda is the stick, sda1 is the bootable bit with dsl in it....

I really miss drag and drop, I am soooooooooo too used to seeing everything right in front of me....in windows it would be a drive :(

trying to make sense of the read me files although they are making a little more sense than they did last night, still a little confused...

unzip filename.zip

where "filename" is the name of your file.

To be more specific on the 5-way stuff:

1) Download the 5-way.tgz file from the dsl web site
2) Open up an xterminal window and type:

sudo su
tar -zxvf 5-way.tgz
cd 5-way
./5way_install.sh

and then follow the instructions.
