Hi, there!

About me:  I'm new with DSL, but not with Linux nor Unix. javascript:emoticon('')

I wanted to have a bootable USB-stick with Linux, so I went into the next shop, bought an LG 512 MB stick and fetched DSL. javascript:emoticon(':p')

At first I got an ISO-Image and burned a CD with it.

Then I booted from CD (which is a USB-device, too - went fine so far) and the first trick I had to find out was, that I have to insert the stick during boot from CD. Inserting it from the beginning, tries to boot from the stick.  Inserting it later, fails to recognize the stick for installation. javascript:emoticon(':O')

So, after I found that out, I managed to install DSL on the stick the 'common' way: ->Tools->Install to USB-HDD

I picked to install the OS from the CD-Image, I choose 'sda' for the device and there is afterwards data on the stick too. The script which does all that end without any error.

But I can try and put it into any computer I find and they all keep telling me, that the file just loaded does not apear to be executable and that I shall insert another floppy instead. javascript:emoticon('')

Am I missing something? - I start becoming angry, because they have no trouble booting from CDROM... javascript:emoticon(':O')

I am thinking about creating 1.44 MB partition on the stick and putting the floppy image onto it and then make it boot from the second partition on the stick. - I f this can be made work!?

Anybody any experience with this idea?

Best regards,

HWE

perhaps you can follow this procedures....hope this will help...

1. Stick USB Flash to Computer

2. Boot DSL with CDROM

3. after Desktop Finish loading Set DSL to connect internet by right click on desktop :
System -> Net Setup -> Net card config (if connect to network)
or
System -> Net Setup -> DialUp PPP  (if connect by modem)

4. Connect to internet

5. right click and Apps -> Tools -> Install to USB Pendrive -> For USB-ZIP Pendrive
( for Flash disk its better to choose usb-zip install than hdd install, to extend pendrive lifetime, that what i read somewhere :p )

5. it will download necessary file, after that it will ask you ready to install..??? press Y (enter)

6. and ask you again, is it install or upgrade? press i (enter)

7. dsl will donwload somefile again..after finish

8. and then ask you to enter the target to hold image : type sda (enter)

9.  use dsl iso from ? chose Live CD : press L (enter)

10. enter boot time and languange just press enter two times  :D

11. and DSL do the rest...

12. voila........... it complete.... reboot the computer and do not forget to set the bios to boot from usb

here the picture of dsl install process

and here the picture of DSL run from USB Flash disk (Toshiba 512mb) on my hand

Hi

Thanks for the installation guild.

But is there a way that can do the installation without connecting to the net ? e.g. pre download everything into a USB or CD.
