Hello, another Linux newbie with a simple question...

I managed to create a bootable USB key, but everything I create disappear when I reboot...

I tried the Saving your configuration instructions (on the startup page of Dillo browser), I tried to add the line
/home/dsl/.mozilla
in the file file
/home/dsl/filetool.lst   AND
/ramdisk/home/dsl/

But it still doesn't work...

Can somebody tell me the correct path to modify data on a USB key - or give me any pointers on what Im doing wrong, in plain English... or in French, whatever   ;)

My first goal is simply to be able to save and edit my bookmarks with FireFox.

Then be able to save/keep a few files on the key.

I created the key using the Install to USB Pendrive tool.

And yes, I tried to understand the instructions from the thread >keeping things installed, but there seems to be some instructions missing.

Any help would be really appreciated. I can wash your car or mow your lawn in return.  ;)

i'd be also interested in saving data to my usb stick.
I think that all the directories you mentioned are newley created during every boot process.
So you'd have to use the backup/restore feature
another thread where backup/restore is explained

Now it'd be great if the backupdata was stored to the USBstick and if I could save other stuff to the stick. But it is mounted to /cdrom as read-only :(

At this walkthrough the author says at 1.28 (end of section1) that he modified the minirt24 and cut the read-only parameter out where the stick is mounted.
He also offers the modified minirt24.gz for download but only for version 092. So I've searched for that parameter by myself but havent found the right one yet.
If you gunzip the minirt24.gz and edit it you're welcomed by binary. But if you're searching for linuxrc you'll find the script where the "-o ro" has to be deleted .... somewhere.
(I only got kernelpanics with my modified minirt24.gz's)

If anybody found out or has a better solution, please post it!

The format for your filetool.lst file should be..

home/dsl/.mozilla
home/dsl/filetool.lst

home/dsl ? <-- If you use this,
everything including the above lines are backed up as well..

Notice the formatting ..
No leading slashes, no trailing slashes ..
Otherwise, it won't work..

Your default /home/dsl/.filetool.lst,
and it's companion /home/dsl/.xfiletool.lst, should have already
been setup to provide the most efficient backup of your personal files.

If you used the USB-ZIP procedure,
your backup should be defaulting to your sdb partition.

Right click on the desktop, select System>>Backup/Restore
Enter in the box     sdb
Your fresh backup should write to your pendrive's second partition.

This wiki text should provide your more info.
