Nothing special is required - just a normal dsl cd will do (burnt iso etc)
You can also make a floppy that will boot usb from one of the menu - but this is unpractical if you dont have a floppy drive, so;
Use a dsl cd, it will automatically search for install data on usb drives, but you can use a boot command to tell it where to look if that dosent work. It will then load backups etc automatically aswell (but you can tell it where to look). Just boot it normally.
This is a lot easier then what pangean did, as you shouldnt actually need to do that... hope I didnt piss you off by not actually answering the question, oh well.
