VMWARE is a completely different program from qemu...
VMWARE cost alot of $ (if its legit...hehe), qemu is GPL and is still in development

I use VirtualPC from Connectix (b4 M$ bought em out..go figure)
and thats what I use to compile kernels and whatnot for making MODS on my firewall app called SmoothWall...

Those other apps have been tested, retested, and have a huge funded team working on them, qemu is a different story, but its FREE

Interested to hear what you think of it. Iwas not so keen.

Can you give me a url for qemu as I would like to find out more.
It would be an ideal alternative for my students to use. (I am a lecturer at a college of further ed).
I use VMWare for demonstrations and for testing new OS's/configs and find it very good.It is to pricey for my students to get though and a lot would like to try versions of linux etc but do not want to alter there machine (usually a family machine and alterations are on pain of death!)

http://fabrice.bellard.free.fr/qemu/

Its still in development (isnt all linux in development!!)
It unfortunately runs slower/less efficient as VMWare or VirtualPC

Its not bad though..it at least runs
Good luck with it!
