frugal_grub.sh as well as frugal_install.sh, i.e, lilo, are primarily setup for a simple install and setting up the bootloader with user boot time options.
It would appear to me that a poorman's install is more appropriate for your installation. That is a simple copying of the system files minirt24.gz, linux24 and knoppix/knoppix and manually setting up or adding to an existing boot loader together with any boot time options so desired..
