Hi,

Perhaps this may seem a silly request but I now have quite a few DSL disks and (yes, my fault) not all clearly marked, I always mark RW disks with pencil.

I reckon it would be good if there was an indication of the DSL version in the (for example) the /boot/isolinux/f2 menu file or perhaps in the /index.html file.

Just a suggestion.

Bye,

Geoff.

Newer versions of DSL has the version number inside the OS.  Either in the "Getting Started" web page that pops up, or in the System Stats app.

Another way to figure it out without actually booting the OS is to look at the Date/Time of the KNOPPIX file on the livecd.  It should match up closely with a DSL release date, IE: the date/time of the ISO file on the DSL download page.

The date of the KNOPPIX file is how I have been figuring it out.  Just thought it was not a big task to pop the version number into the "welcome" screen.

that's good: the getting started page is the right place to show it, in my opinion.
(but it would be even nicer if you could get it form the boot splash screen, the one with little tux..)

:)

Personally I don't care where it is found, but it would be useful to have it somewhere outside of the KNOPPIX system, so a person could do a quick mount of the CD or pen without booting to see what version he's holding.  Going by the file date is not very convenient if you have to go online to verify the actual version number.  Then if you do a mkmydsl, the modification time has changed.
