Hi - can we get any (small) sample mp3 or au or wav file that xmms or other sound apps can play, included in the default distro?

I have no net connection on my old, tired laptop (P-166, 32M RAM) until I either get my Linksys WUSB-11 working or get another card.  Until then, I've been setting other things up - I now have the sound modules loading with no errors, but there is nothing to play, and no simple way of getting anything there.

(Remember the Llama Whippin' mp3 from old Winamp installs? )

-A play sound test without audio file:
Using XMMS, chosse "Play Location" and write "tone://1000" (without quotation marks).
That should generate a 1000 hertz tone.

-I do know from the post by "klasact" user that the Linksys WUSB-11 v2.5 work with DSL 2.4
You could send an email to klasact to know more details.

Piccolo.... that's pretty neat. I didn't know about the tone:// function with xmms.  There's been several times when I've shown someone the liveCD of DSL on their machine and couldn't easily test if the sound was working. Now I know how to do it.  Thanks.

Tomv....  There's been times when I agree with you and thought maybe some small sound file should be included. But space is tight and it's a real low priority.  My vote for the sound to include is the mp3 (or maybe it could be translated to ogg) from this page: http://www.jx90.com/linux.html .  It's Linus saying Linux.

Not much irratates me but I do have to say hearing people say Li - nucks instead of Lynn - uks raises the hairs on the back of my neck. :)

The DSL Forum Search default is 'OR'
If you search for "cat dog" you will get all "cat" posts and all "dog" posts.
If you search for "cat AND dog" you will only find results that contain BOTH "cat" and "dog"
Add '*' for wildcards, " cat* and dog* "

Thanks Guys - I'll try that 'tone' technique tonight.    This belongs in the wiki - good stuff.

That's good!  Another handy tip for my notes.  Thanks.
