I would suggest an almost "naked" version based on gtk2. Just the basic things to run the system and the rest can be added with extensions according to the users needs. I don't suggest DSL will always be so but at least one "naked" or basic release won't hurt.

But should be enabled with boot command. And with toram it would copy only neccessary files to ram saving some more memory.
