When I see a post about this distro or that distro did it, why can't yours, my response is. It is always a tradeoff between hardware support and apps. Some of the other small distro prefer apps with after-support for hardware. DSL leans more towards hardware support with after-support, MyDSL, for apps. One reason for this is the Knoppix base, but the other reason is that many more people could create/repackage applications to work in DSL than would have the expertise to create hardware support.
We have Abiword in two formats for use in DSL. One is a .dsl which is ramdisk intensive, the other is a .unc which can run on very low ram systems.
