Greetings and Kudos on an excellent Distro!

I just had an excellent experience installing Ubuntu on an old Windo$e laptop using Instlux's .exe program. Downloaded it onto an old laptop with Win2k on it, clicked, and did the most simple Linux install I've ever done in my life. This old Vaio doesn't have a bootable cdrom drive and it's a bear to get -any- Linux on it for a noob. I just wonder if there could be an Instlux version (or something like it) where one simply downloads an .exe file onto a WinhoSe laptop or pc, then via the web via their nic, simply installs DSL in that way? It worked flawlessly with Ubuntu and I couldn't help wondering how many people might finally realize the beauty of both Linux and DSL on an old lappy or box if they -had- such an option available to them. DSL would install in about 10 mins. max depending on web connection speeds, etc..

I strongly support DSL, DSL-N and Puppy re. the lack of bloat and ease of use for most of what each of these distro's offers... but sometimes the install just sounds a bit too voodoo-like to newbies IF they don't have a bootable cdrom drive.

Old laptop, no bootable CDROM, with a bootable floppy drive and with Windows98, or windows with fat, i.e., not NTFS !

1. From Windows download current.iso
2. From Windows download the standard boot floppy
3. Use rawrite to create the DSL boot floppy.

4. Boot machine from floppy at the first DSL boot prompt:
boot: dsl bootfrom=/dev/hda1/dsl-3.1.iso

That is about as simple as can be. Works great for OLD lappies and anything still running Win98 or using fat filesystem.

Of course you may still need additional boot options such as
vga=normal, npapic, etc..

From this setup. you can easily perform any of the DSL installation types. When prompted for source, select l for liveCD
