Old laptop, no bootable CDROM, with a bootable floppy drive and with Windows98, or windows with fat, i.e., not NTFS !
1. From Windows download current.iso 2. From Windows download the standard boot floppy 3. Use rawrite to create the DSL boot floppy.
4. Boot machine from floppy at the first DSL boot prompt: boot: dsl bootfrom=/dev/hda1/dsl-3.1.iso
That is about as simple as can be. Works great for OLD lappies and anything still running Win98 or using fat filesystem.
Of course you may still need additional boot options such as vga=normal, npapic, etc..
From this setup. you can easily perform any of the DSL installation types. When prompted for source, select l for liveCD
