I have used Mrxvt (a multi-tabbed xterm) with Fluxbox for about 2 years. Still very happy with it, not thinking about changing.

Would a multi-tabbed term be a good match for DSL? A minimally-compiled 'mrxvt' is about 70K in size.

Not really needed, as fluxbox can handle generic tabs.. but perhaps would more people prefer this one?  Any difference in resource usages?

But personally I don't like many tabbed terminals and prefer the use of workspaces.

There's also an mydsl extension if people want to try it out first, although there's a newer version out.  It looks very customizable though, and has quite a number of (other) features that may be of interest.

I guess we just have different styles. Tabs vs Workspaces, the difference is academic. But I do think mrxvt is better than multiple aterms for a new user, since he doesn't have to switch between terms or workspaces all the time.

Oops, forgot to note that fluxbox isn't the only wm in (default) DSL anymore.

Well, new user or not, I've always stuck with 4 terminals / workspace (I find it's convenient to have them displayed at the same time, and 'grouped' by workspace).  Also,I don't see how switching between tabs are any better/easier than switching between terms or ws's for terminals, so I'm still placing this choice down to preference rather than new user friendliness.

If you like tabbed windows, Fluxbox provides this. Not only for multiple aterms, but you can combine any window with another in a tabbed style. For Fluxbox, just grab the tab of one open window using your middle mouse button (or emulation of) and drag onto another window and the two open windows with be grouped together and both tabs will show. Clicking on a specific tab will switch to that window.

PWM was the first window manager to provide this tabbed windows feature. Many window managers now support this, including Fluxbox.
