I think that DSL should be able to do a LiveMove. LiveMove is simply creating a persistant home directory on a removable device (pendrives, floppy disk, etc.). Knoppix, PCLinuxOS and Kanotix can do this so why cant DSL do this? :;):

Imagine saving your configuration and stuff on a pendrive and then you went to your friends house, you would just insert your DSL cd and pendrive into that Winblows machine and your good to go.

Boot your DSL CD.

From the right/click menu, choose....

Apps -> Tools -> Install to USB Pendrive -> For USB-HDD Pendrive.
                                                               -> For USB-ZIP Pendrive.

This will install a complete bootable DSL onto your pendrive.
This will boot from most any computer that supports USB booting in bios.

This method will boot and run your entire os from pendrive,
and save all your personal files, not just store them for cdrom use..
no cdrom needed..

If the computer does not support USB booting,
a floppy disk image - bootfloppy-usb.img, is in the repository,
and that will boot and run the entire os from your pendrive.
no cdrom needed..

Or simply boot the cdrom with the bootcode ' fromhd=sda1 '
This method will also run the entire os from the pendrive,
not just store your personal files on it..

The internal backup function preserves all your /home/dsl files.

If you JUST want your personal files saved on the pendrive,
insert pendrive, boot from the cdrom, and use the bootcode '  home=sda1 '

Or , use the backup function to save your personal files to sda1,
and a compressed file, backup.tar.gz , contains all your data.

Or, use the webdata backup, and forget your pendrive altogether..
It makes a backup of your personal files to any FTP site, encrypted.
Then , when your at your friend's house, boot up from cdrom,
enter your password, and use the webdata restore to
download all your personal user files..

Ready to go!  Fav background, bookmarks, email, all there..
Reboot, and no trace left, and nothing touched on the host computer!

DSL had this long before knoppix, or other distros did.
Even the FAQ at knoppix points to a link that uses DSL as it's example.
( back in 2003 - using DSL version 0.3.6 )
