ds-bsd is not getting through the boot process for me yet, which is a bit sad on an HP laptop.  Switching off acpi made no difference, some error I don't recognize.

Doesn't even look like a SysV init, but I'm not familiar with BSD.

I can get to a commandline.  

There's nothing as sophisticated as a forum I gather.  Might try irc.
