Found an interesting article on Newscientist.com

It seems IBM is also working on a bootable USB OS, based on Knoppix.

They have named it SoulPad, and it might prove useful to DSL by providing tools/setup and ideas, backed by IBM research $

One cool thing the do, is "suspend" everything from RAM, back to the USB drive.
And it can boot any OS with wmware (looks like they are using Windows in the video...)
It is encrypted, and decrypted with an extra usb key.

BTW. I already use my (dsl) SoulDrive ;)
with Portable Firefox
And a host of other "essensial" tools

You can do the exact same thing using Embedded DSL. Qemu allows you to save states so that you can come back later right where you left off and it is very fast.

DSL-Embedded R0x
qmeu -savevm -loadvm
