Either pull the hard drive and do the install on a different computer, or boot from floppy and do a net install (frgual lite and Tom's Root Boot disk) or a floppy only install.

Or you can reinstall MSDOS/FreeDOS/Win95/Win98 and install the parallel port driver and do it that way.

hi Cbagger01..  thanks for the advice. I chose the path to install MSDOS just so I can enable the parallel-port external cdrom drive where I can copy the \KNOPPIX into the harddrive ..

note: (Pentium 75mhz + fd drive + 24MB ram + 1GB hd + external parallel port cdrom drive)

Copied the D:\KNOPPIX directory to C:\KNOPPIX.

Inserted the bootfloppy and actually got far .. as far as ..

What boot switches did you use?
Try booting with:
Code Sample
dsl mem=24M minimal desktop=jwm xsetup

and see what happens?
Hope that it helps.
Cheers and beers,
Sarah

Also, if you get dropped into a shell like that again, type:
Code Sample
xsetup.sh
which will take you through a setup script for X.

Cheers and beers again!

Good morning Sarah :)

Thanks for the kind reply :)

I use the switch DSL 2 LOWRAM MINIMAL when that happened.

Now when I try the switch that you gave me... i get the same result.

Also late last nite I reformatted my HD via CFDISK to allocate 250MB for Linux swap and then installed msdos6.22 on the remaining 850MB...

typing the command sudo su and then fdisk -L..

Quote

Disk /dev/hda: 1083 MB, 1083801600 bytes
64 heads, 63 sectors/track, 525 cyl
units=cylinders of 4032*512 = 2064384 bytes

device          boot     start      end      blocks     id  system
/dev/hda1     *          405         525    243936    82 Linux swap
/dev/hda2                     1         404    814432     6  FAT16

so anywayz.. back to the boot up error............
