It's good just in case. It really depends on how you use your machine. I know like for compiling you want a good deal of swap. But for me, i browes the net and some office tasks, listen to music, watch vides, and play with pics sometimes.
I just need enough room to hold the apps i want to use. I keep everything i use on a 128mb usb key. Here's a pic->
