DSL v4 is not using a 2.6 kernel.
However, interesting about the nopobe option, i.e, does

hdc=noprobe

or

hdc=noprobe hdc=cdrom ide1=0x170,0x376,15

help?

I will try it this afternoon ( european time :) ).
Thanks for this information.
Hope there is a way to get DSL 4 running soon from a live-cd on a SATA based DVD/CD-drive.

Hope there is a way to get DSL 4 running soon from a live-cd on a SATA based DVD/CD-drive.

No difference, beside the fact, that it even takes longer time till the (very limited) shell appears.

I have tested again the following CD-roms with the following results:

Knoppix 3.1 beta > CD stopps without a message (?)
Knoppix 3.3 > Same result as DSL 4 alpha
Knoppix 3.82 > Same result as DSL 4 alpha
Knoppix 5.1.1 > Runs without a problem, all the hardware is recognized automatically without any boot-parameters.
DSL-N 0.1 RC4 > Seems to work, but the mouse pointer dosn't move, therefore no possibility to do further tests after completed boot.

Further ideas how to get DSL working on SATA machines ?
Or will DSL-N be continued in parallel to DSL 4 ?

Knoppix 5.1.1 and DSL-N 0.1 RC4 show the following message during boot:
" accessing cdrom at /dev/sr0 .. "

that's due to them using the 2.6.x kernel

Anyways, as I have previously suggested, you can try using dsl-initrd versions for now (though you'll probably have to make your own if you want to use 4a1)... it'd probably be easier to test out modules from there too.

So you think there is no possibility to get the ordinary DSL 4 live-CD with 2.4.x kernel running on my new computer with SATA?

Unfortunately I do not know anything about dsl-initrd.
Maybe I should check in the forum.
But I am looking for an easy way.

Otherwise I will use my old computer to bring the data from the live-CD to an USB memory stick.
But this is what I would prefer more when the final version is available.

How easy is it to exchange the kernels ?
E.g. remove 2.4.x and add 2.6.x ?
Don't know their compatibility.
Must the surrounding code be rewritten completely for each new kernel?
