Hi everyone,

I'm really, really impressed by DSL and DSL-N.  I wish I needed it for something that works though, because I only want dosbox and I seem to have failed the intelligence test.

I installed dsl to the hard drive ("installs as debian"), fixed grub errors 17 and 15, got apt-get working but couldn't find dosbox.  Then I got the .deb, but that failed dependencies.  Then I found MyDSL; excellent!  Dosbox worked.

Then I cycled through 4 different sound cards and none were supported by dsl.

:(

Then I got DSL-N, installed that to HD and used MyDSL to install dosbox.

Now when I run it I get an error, dosbox wants to laod the libvorbisfile.so.3 library but can't find it.

Double- :(

How can I get dosbox working on dsl-N, OR
How can I get dsl-N to behave like debian and use 100% debian apt repositories, so that apt-get install dosbox just works?

- which sound cards? Maybe they are supported by drivers not included with dsl (but which could be added) or maybe they are supported by the mydsl alsa extension?

- could you compile dosbox from source?

- you could try --force-all but this is not recommended for a hd install...

Intel i810 ac97 onboard gives "Pure mmio mode not supported".

Terratec DMX fire (Crystal CS4626 -CQ) gives "unknown card type."

Probably, but I've always found that it's 'cleaner' to use the distribution's supported package management.  Given that dosbox is listed as a .dsl and a .deb, and that this thing says it installs as debian, why should I have to?  I want to pass the system off to a much less technical person, and it'd be good if the package management worked smoothly.

In the end I did this with the .deb file and it installed, but still the libvorbis dependency failed.

- I have an "Intel Corp. 82801DB (ICH4) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01)" that works fine with the alsa extension.

- due (in part I guess) to the relationship of dsl to knoppix, some of the lib files equate to debian woody and some to debian sarge, which means that there are plenty of dependency issues when trying to use debs. When I started out with dsl I tried the deb route for a while, but I found out things worked much better for me when compiling from scratch.
