Trying to connect to a serial device through the usb port (/dev/ttyUSB0).  I setup minicom, run and get;
minicom: cannot open /dev/ttyUSB0: No such device or address.  I am not sure what else I can provide, but I can boot into xubuntu live, fedora live, etc. and the distro's see and connect instantly.

I would prefer to run dsl due to the past performance, but need this to work obviously.  All distro's tested are using the 2.6.12 kernel so I know it's not that as well.

Any help is appreciated.

If you are running from liveCD or frugal, then those devices need to be unlinked from the the read-only compressed image.
Doing an ls /dev/tty* will show such.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I am running dsl-n installed via the "install to hd app", so it's not a live, and don't think it's considered a frugal install.

ls -l /dev/ttyUSB* shows;
crw-rw--- root 16   188  - Jul 14 2002 /dev/ttyUSB0 (and is a loud pink/purple), no not sure if that needs unlinking or not.

Does that help at all?   Thanks.

Moved to DSL-N area.

Try opening the permissions to whatever user you are using.

Wasn't sure on the dsl-n or networking as it's really both, I did change the /dev/ttyUSB0 permissions to 777 and I am running minicom as root with the same results.  I did try to run minicom as the general DSL user with the same results.
