I'm putting together a system which will run DSL off a CF card with the IDE adapter.  I did a frugal install on an old laptop when I was first trying out DSL.  But in this case is it possible to manually create a frugal install?

If I plug the CF card into my USB card reader (I'm using Ubuntu on my regular desktop) can I simply partition the disk and copy the files from the .iso?  I just not sure how to go about setting up the CF card so that went I plug it into the adapter the system will boot up properly.

How are the CF cards that come preinstalled with DSL setup?

I could have just ordered it all already done but then I wouldn't learn anything.

Thanks for your help.

Hi
This depends on your BIOS but here is what I did.  I plugged the CF/IDE combination in as master on the first ide channel.  I connected a CDrom drive as slave on the same channel.  This was temporary since the final system doesn't have a CD drive.  I configured the BIOS to boot from CD first.  It doesn't care that it is the slave.  Booted from CD.  Partitioned /dev/hda the way I wanted.  Did the frugal install to /dev/hda.  Powered off.  Removed CD drive.  Powered on.  Booted from my CF drive.

Worked great.

Good luck
