You have to have freespace already made, unfortunately it wont do like (partition magic) and move parition then make new one...
My suggestion is to get a bootable cd like ULTIMATE BOOT CD and then make a 250MEG or larger parition that is freespace...
Then use cfdisk in which you create a type 2 (i believe option 82 on cfdisk) to make the parition..once you write it, reboot, then type "dsl-hdinstall" at the shell prompt....
You have to remember the dev name of the newly made linux partition (usually /dev/hda2---you can leave of the /dev in the install)
